Surf Arinsal: Argentine steakhouse at the foot of the Arinsal gondola

Surf Arinsal is one of those places locals in Arinsal have known forever. It opened in 1991 in a stone borda at the foot of the gondola, and it is now run by the family’s second generation. The menu is Argentine, with the grill at its heart, and the terrace fills up as soon as the evening picks up at the resort.

The dishes people order

To start, beef empanadas, garlic bread with cheese or onion soup. Among the salads, the Caesar with grilled chicken breast, spinach, endive, tomato and bacon crisps stands out. From the grill, the bife ancho with chimichurri and house-cut fries and the rare T-bone are among the most recommended. To share, there is a parrillada for two, and for something heartier, the milanesa napolitana.

For dessert there are cheesecakes, dulce de leche cake, tarte Tatin and chocolate. According to some guides, there are also options for non-meat eaters, mostly among the salads and starters.

Price and opening hours

The average bill is around €40 to €50 per person without wine, although some diners mention slightly cheaper dinners. It opens at lunchtime, from 1:00 to 3:30 pm, and in the evening, from 7:00 to 10:30 pm, and it closes on Tuesdays. Some websites list slightly different hours, so it is worth calling or booking before you go.

Atmosphere and how to get there

The room feels like an old pub, with wooden beams upstairs, although most people prefer a table near the open kitchen. In winter it is a staple of the après-ski, and in summer the terrace is good for outdoor lunches. It sits on Camí de les Barques, a few steps from the Arinsal gondola, in the parish of La Massana.
